Gerold Janssen (1974) Aurich (Germany)
My name is Gerold, I am 46 years old and I live in East Frisia on the North Sea coast of Germany. I got into racing cycling in 2017. The reason was health-related and had its origins 12 years ago. At that time I had problems with my knee for several years and the doctors advised me to have surgery or exercise. Freestyle swimming and cycling were recommended as sports. So I started swimming regularly 12 years ago and tried to improve my time and technique. My knee problems got noticeably better after less than a year.
In 2016 I wanted to swap my aging trekking bike for a new one. I opted for a fitness bike and I was so positively surprised by cycling that after only a year I was annoyed why I hadn’t put on a racing bike straight away. But I guess I’m not the only one who feels that way. So in 2017 the first racing bike was added and from then on I also combined swimming training with traveling to and from the swimming pool with the racing bike. And beyond that, I explore every corner of our beautiful, flat and windy East Frisia by bike every week, no matter what time of year and never without a camera.
My knee problem has been resolved and forgotten for several years now, without an operation and I can still thank the doctor who put on sport. Sport is the healing agent for body and soul, isn’t it?
