Selma Yarkin (1977) Cologne (Germany)
Hi my name is Selma (IG: fit_n_cycle) and I am from Cologne, Germany.
I started cycling in 2003, right away in a training camp in Mallorca. So my first time on a race bike with click pedals was on this beautiful island. Since then I am addicted to cycling.
I am mostly a race biker but couple years in between I switched over to triathlon, too.
Then I got my beautiful girl and was from the very beginning on a single mom. And without grand parents around and full time working it was for 6 years not possible to go cycling outdoors – no time 😦
My passion had to rest. I stayed fit with running and bought me an indoorcycle and when the baby girl slept I was jumping on my Indoorcycle or we went for a run with the baby jogger. I missed cycling outdoors a lot.
When my girl got 6 she got more and more into play dates with her friends. And for me there were more and more time windows to go back to cycling outdoors. You can imagine how nice it was to be back on the race bike after a break of six years – goosebumps, tears, full of joy! After one year back on the bike I applied for the Team Alpecin . You get fully sponsored for one year – their motto: Ride like a pro. It was a jackpot for me and a dream came true. All my friends supported me and took my girl when I was training or when I was on races. And during the week I trained mostly on my Kickr. Even sometimes before work from 4-6am. So I finished many races in this dream season and the biggest challenges I finished were the L’Etape du Tour and the Ötztaler Radmarathon.
I learned a lot the last couple of years and the most important thing is that you never should stop dreaming and believing in yourself. Your will leads you to every goal you can imagine of.
Cycling is my passion, my gym and my therapy – When in doubt pedal it out 😉
Thank you, that I can be part of this great community!
