Heey! My name is Joanie, and I live in the Netherlands.
I have not always had an absolute passion for sports, that passion and drive for excitement came when I was getting older and other people I met got me addicted.
When I was a child I loved doing icedancing, which I did from when I was only 4 years old till my 16th.
I was a bit bigger in size (overweight as you May call it) at the time and I needed to do something about that…. And I know what you think now… No it wasn’t cycling that got me there!
Me and my friend started training for a 10 km running event in my hometown. And I just couldn’t stop doing that running thing! I started training with an athletics group and before I knew it I was standing on the startline of my first marathon! Now in 2019 I have run 9 marathons.
I couldn’t think about doing anything else then running… That was until I met my boyfriend in 2017 who is a passionate road cyclist. That year I torn my ankle ligaments when I was in training for my next marathon. To stay in shape I got my somewhat rusty road bike out of the shed and started training. I LOVED IT SO FREAKING MUCH. I became better and better and totally forgot my marathon. I bought a beautiful road bike and have done a lot of races since.
