Mathys Taekema (1981) Hoofddorp (The Netherlands)
Hello everyone! My name is Mathys Taekema (a.k.a. Dutch_Cycling_Friend). I’m 37 years old, I’m married andfather of two sons (3 and 6 years old). We live in Hoofddorp, a town close to Amsterdam.
Since I was young I was always into sports; swiming, fitness and I used to run. I’m also a big fan of windsurfing and skiing. Six years ago I broke my ankle so I could not do any running and I was looking for another outdoor sport. My father in lawalways tried to get me on the bike so I decided this was theright moment. I started like the most of you probably did, I borrowed a bike, some clothes and a couple of shoes to see if I would like it. And I did like i tand it did not took long before Iinvested some serious money in a bike and cycling clothes.
It started with one ride per week in the weekends. Again myfather in law pushed me to commute to my office in Amsterdam. At first I told he was crazy but on a nice summermorning I thought why don’t I give it a try. During that veryfirst commute to work I got hooked! I reaaly like to get up early to take my bike and ride to work. Aslo, after a long dayin the office there is nothing more relaxed than getting on mybike and cycle home. It’s keeping me fit and it’s also veryeffective since I got a busy job in International sales and I want to spend time with my family as well. After that first summer the Autumn kicked in and I just wanted to keep cycling so I bought a second CX bike with thicker tires so nowI commute all year round. The goal fort his year is to cylce9.500 km. You could say I’m pretty addicted to cycling andrecently I’m combining it with one of my other passions;photography. Therefor I’m happy I started my Instagram profile a couple of months ago. I found out that there is a greatcommunity of like-minded people who all love cycling andtaking great photo’s!
One of the first communites that stood out was AllblackCycling Club. I started to follow the club and noticed all thegreat content that was shared. I’m glad to be part of thisawesome community and I look forward to share and see more great photo’s!
